Short-short: which cycling clothing do you wear at what temperature?

The time has come, the sun has been shining for a few weeks now, but today you can really cycle short-short. Let's ride!

Yet it is sometimes difficult to estimate. What do you wear at what temperature? We are happy to give you advice. Of course, what is comfortable varies per person, but it is a good guideline.

Between 0 and 8 degrees

Choose a good cycling jacket or winter jersey with a long-sleeved undershirt. Complement your clothes with a sleeveless windstopper during the really cold and windy days. Long warm winter pants, gloves, overshoes, gaiter and a beanie.

A good cycling jersey is essential. It is a bit of an investment, but you will certainly benefit from this during your rides.

Between 8 and 12 degrees

Choose long pants or shorts with leg warmers. Furthermore, a shirt with long sleeves (or sleeve pieces), undershirt and windstopper.

It is now time for long sleeves and a slightly thicker cycling shirt with, for example, a light fleece inside. You can also wear a sleeveless windbreaker over this. A cycle vest is lightweight and easy to put away in the pocket of your cycling jersey.

Between 12 and 18 degrees

Choose short cycling pants, possibly supplemented with leg warmers. Furthermore, a summer shirt with long sleeves is recommended. Or just short sleeves with arm warmers of course. Under the shirt you wear an undershirt with short sleeves. These shirts not only keep you warm, but the shirts are also moisture-wicking (useful when sweating) and quick-drying. The wind breaker is also recommended.

Between 18 and 25 degrees

Short-short is the advice. Choose shorts and a light summer shirt. Wear a sweat shirt underneath to wick away moisture. An undershirt also provides a real layer of air that provides cooling and absorption of sweat during high temperatures. Wear a cycling shirt with a long zipper so that you can regulate the temperature by opening or closing the zipper.

If you leave just below this temperature in the morning, a wind stopper is useful. This has no sleeves, an open back and therefore does not get too warm quickly. Yet the front provides just enough warmth to break the morning chill.
