A starting number strap, also called a racing belt, helps to tie the starting number during a competition. These elastic bands ensure that you do not have to put safety pins through your clothing and in a triathlon the starting number can easily be removed from the back to the stomach during the transition to running.
Start number tapes sometimes also have extra loops into which other items such as gels and strips can be inserted. Ideal during heavy exertion!
