Why Heat Monitoring Makes the Difference

During intense efforts, your core temperature rises, which can affect your performance. The CORE sensor allows you to continuously monitor your temperature, allowing you to make strategic decisions about hydration and cooling. This helps you avoid overheating and loss of efficiency, especially essential during long races and training in hot conditions.

    Seamless Integration with Your Devices

The CORE 2 Body Temperature Monitor is designed to fit seamlessly into your existing training setup. With support for both Bluetooth and ANT+, this advanced sensor communicates seamlessly with virtually all popular sports devices and platforms.

When your core temperature rises during intense exercise, your power output and pace decrease.

That's why the world's best coaches and athletes use CORE to optimize their heat acclimatization and thus improve their performance.

    • Train Hot

CORE allows you to safely engage in heat acclimation—a form of exercise shown in controlled laboratory studies to increase hemoglobin mass, VO₂max, lactate threshold, power output, and blood plasma volume .

    • Race Cool

Heat training makes your body more resistant to heat, keeping you cooler and performing at a higher level for longer – regardless of the temperature on race day . CORE also lets you monitor your thermal values in real time, so you can intelligently adjust your pacing and cooling accordingly.

    Core 2 FAQ

What are the differences between the CORE and CORE 2 Body Temperature Monitor?

The CORE 2 Body Temperature Monitor is a significant upgrade over the original CORE, with a number of impressive improvements that enhance the overall user experience. Firstly, the CORE 2 is 48% smaller and 30% lighter than the previous generation, ensuring ultimate comfort and ease of use during even the most intense workouts. This makes it ideal for athletes who want a compact and lightweight device without compromising on performance.

Additionally, the CORE 2 has an improved battery status indicator . The new red LED light clearly indicates the battery status, so you always know when it's time to charge, so you never unexpectedly run out of battery during your session.

The modular design of the CORE 2 also offers more flexibility. The sensor can be easily removed from the strap clip, making charging easier and giving you more options to comfortably wear the sensor during your workouts.

The CORE 2 also offers improved connectivity, with a wider range of compatibility with sports watches and bike computers from brands like Garmin, Suunto, Wahoo and COROS. This ensures that you always have access to your real-time thermal data on your favorite devices.

Why is core temperature important for performance?

When your muscles work hard, they generate heat. When enough heat is produced, your core temperature rises. Your body attempts to cool itself by shunting blood from your muscles to your skin, where it is cooled by sweat evaporation. However, this process can reduce your speed and performance. There are two ways to minimize this effect. First, monitoring your core temperature during training and racing allows you to make strategic decisions about pacing and cooling, keeping you cooler and maximizing your performance. Second, heat training can help your body adapt to higher internal temperatures by the time race day arrives. This can lead to significantly improved performance – in one study, cyclists improved their speed in a time trial by 8% after just 10 days of heat training prior to the race.

What data does CORE measure and display?

The CORE sensor measures both core body temperature and skin temperature. This data is displayed live in the CORE app and on compatible sports devices. The app and some Garmin devices also show the Heat Strain Index in real time, which gives you an instant view of how much heat strain the body is experiencing at that moment.

How do I use CORE during a workout or race?

During heat training, CORE data helps you keep your core temperature within your heat training zone. During a race, the CORE sensor tells you when to implement cooling strategies and when to reduce power or pace to avoid overheating.

How much heat training is needed to see results?

The greatest benefits are achieved after 10–12 sessions over a 2–6 week period. Most athletes notice significant improvements after 4–5 sessions, and these benefits can be maintained during the season with as few as 2–3 sessions per week. Each session should consist of 45–60 minutes of continuous effort within the heat training zone. This is the recommended training approach, although it has been shown that even less frequent heat training can significantly improve performance on race day.

I only race in cool weather. Why would I add heat training?

Heat training helps your body adapt to perform more efficiently at elevated core temperatures. It also increases blood plasma and hemoglobin levels, which improves your performance (increased power at lactate threshold and VO2max) in both cool and warm conditions.

What is the scientific basis for the benefits of heat training?

The impact of heat on human performance has been extensively studied and is well understood. It has been demonstrated by sports scientists that heat training enables the body to better cope with higher temperatures, cool itself more efficiently and perform well in both cool and warm conditions. Physiological changes that occur include an increase in blood plasma and hemoglobin, increased sweat production and an earlier onset of sweating. Is the sensor really accurate? How is it tested?

The CORE sensor measures thermal energy transfer between the body and the environment. An AI-based algorithm uses this data to calculate the core body temperature with medical accuracy. Extensive testing has validated the accuracy of CORE data against internal body temperature data collected with more invasive methods, such as swallowed electronic pills. This means athletes can reliably use CORE data to understand what’s happening inside their bodies, with a completely non-invasive wearable that is the first of its kind.

Is CORE compatible with my current sports technology?

The CORE app is available on both iOS and Android platforms. The sensor is compatible with most Garmin watches and bike computers, as well as select devices from COROS, Suunto, Wahoo and Hammerhead. Functionality with Apple and wearOS watches is currently limited, but improving. Training software with full compatibility includes Today's Plan, Intervals.icu and Golden Cheetah. The premium version of Training Peaks is also compatible.

Do I need a heart rate monitor to use CORE?

To get the most accurate data during sports activities, we strongly recommend pairing CORE with a heart rate monitor. Heart rate helps the sensor to accurately convert the measured heat flux into core temperature. During daily activities (i.e. non-sports activities), core temperature data is accurate both with and without a heart rate monitor.
